I’m okay knowing that my dialogue choices are three different versions of “yes” and a “maybe,” as long as it helps me paint my character. That being said, I still think that it’s a great game. It’s a fun sandbox, but real meaningful change is always just out of reach. No matter how many settlements you build, there will still always be raiders willing to raid them. For how wonderfully presented the Commonwealth is, it’s ultimately hollow. In the months after I submitted my review, I’ve come to a much more nuanced opinion.

When I first played, I was quite impressed with the scope and scale of the content. Fallout 4 was a grand endeavor, met with equal parts praise and criticism. Announced as the final piece of DLC at E3 2016, Nuka-World is the last stop in the Commonwealth. After the long lonely road that was Fallout 4, we’ve finally come to the end of the content. But any other attempt to interact with them has no consequences of any real significance (if you shoot them all, you have a lot of dead raiders and nothing much else happens).Well, here we are folks. If you work with the Nuka World gangs, some interesting consequences happen, and as far as that goes, it's good. What it means is that one way of handling things has significant consequences (some story stuff happens), while choosing to do anything else doesn't have any consequences that matter. The problem isn't just the lack of choice, but that the choice is often a "my way or the highway" deal, where you either work with the people in question, or avoid/kill them on the same level you interact with random enemies (you can have that level of interaction with radroaches). Shows that it doesn't matter, people will complain about anything.

And now those people who got exactly what they asked for are complaining again. So out comes Nuka-world where you must make a choice and that choice affects what happens in the world a great deal like what people complained about earlier. No real choices, people said (they are wrong, but that was said anyway).
